Holiday Countdowns — Dates, Traditions and Upcoming Celebrations

See which celebration comes next, check its date and weekday, and open a ready-to-use countdown. This small calendar brings together religious, cultural and shopping occasions. Each guide explains exactly which date it follows, so similar names or different traditions do not turn into misleading countdowns.

Choose a time zone to see when this calendar date starts there. This does not change the celebration or its tradition.

Calendar dates for 2026, including dates that may have passed. With JavaScript, this list selects and orders the upcoming occurrences.

  • Christmas

December 25 is fixed in the Gregorian calendar, but its weekday changes from year to year. The countdown reaches zero at the beginning of that date. It stays in its Christmas Day state until the next local midnight, then turns to the following Christmas.

  • New Year

New Year's Day is January 1 every year. The countdown ends at 00:00 on January 1 in the chosen time zone, not at the start of December 31. During January 1 the page celebrates the arrival of the new year; afterwards it counts toward the next January 1.

  • Easter Sunday

Western Easter is the Sunday after the ecclesiastical full moon that falls on or after March 21. The full moon is defined by church tables, not by a live observation of the Moon. Easter therefore falls between March 22 and April 25 inclusive. The dates below use Gregorian computus.

  • Halloween

October 31 is fixed in the Gregorian calendar. Its weekday changes, which can affect whether a celebration is held on the date itself or on a nearby weekend. The page shows Halloween throughout October 31 and begins counting toward the next year after the day ends in the selected time zone.

  • Valentine’s Day

February 14 is a fixed Gregorian date. It remains February 14 in every language version of this event. Choosing a Brazilian time zone changes the instant of local midnight; it does not change the target to June 12 or replace this event with a Brazilian celebration.

  • Black Friday

U.S. Thanksgiving falls on the fourth Thursday in November; Black Friday is the following day. It therefore falls between November 23 and November 29. The timer targets local 00:00 on that Friday. Retailers set their own opening times, campaign dates and offer conditions independently.

A calendar date is not always a public holiday

Christmas and New Year are familiar calendar landmarks, while Halloween and Valentine's Day are cultural occasions and Black Friday is a shopping date. Whether businesses close or employees have a day off depends on the country and local rules. This catalogue does not claim that every listed date is a public holiday everywhere.

Easter here means Western Easter Sunday. Christmas means December 25, New Year means January 1, and Valentine's Day means February 14. Other religious calendars and regional celebrations deserve their own clearly identified entries rather than a silent change to one of these dates.

Use a countdown wherever you are

The live list uses your device's time zone unless you choose another one. Changing it moves the instant at which the selected calendar date begins; it does not change the event's identity. During the celebration the page shows that it has arrived, and after its local day ends it starts counting toward the next occurrence.

For a birthday, a trip, a party that starts in the evening or a shop's specific launch time, create a personal countdown instead. The holiday guides count to the start of the named date, not to every activity that might take place during it.
